A typical sugar packet contains 2 to 4 grams of sugar. Some sugar packets in countries such as Poland contain 5 to 10 grams of sugar. Sugar packet sizes, shapes, and weights differ by brand, region, and other factors.

One packet of sugar—the kind people put in their coffee—is typically 4 grams.

Keep this tip in mind when reading nutrition labels to better visualize just how much added sugar the product contains. For example, one 12-ounce can of cola contains 39 grams–almost 10 teaspoons of sugar!

Standard sugar packets will typically measure one teaspoon per packet.

Powdered sugar usually weighs around 4 1/2 ounces per cup straight out of the box. So, if you have a 1-pound box (about 16 ounces), expect it to hold roughly 3 1/2 to 4 cups of powdered sugar.

Is a sugar packet equal to a sugar cube? ›

One sugar cube is equal to half a teaspoon, or about 2 grams of sugar, which ultimately amounts to two sugar packets. If you only indulge in hot drinks occasionally, there are other drinks in which you can use sugar cubes.

One rounded teaspoon (tsp.) of sugar weighs approximately 5 grams. Bar, packet etc. sizes are those most common to the product unless otherwise stated.

A gram of sugar is about 1/4 teaspoon by volume, 1 gram of sodium is about 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 gram of lard is 1/4 teaspoon.

Generally, it's recommended to use 1 cup of granulated sugar for 1 3/4 cups of powdered sugar. A more accurate (and easier) way to substitute the sugars is based on weight, not volume. If a recipe calls for 1 cup of powdered sugar (4 ounces, or 113 grams), you should use 4 ounces of granulated sugar.

How to substitute 1 cup of sugar. To replace 1 cup of white sugar you can substitute it for 3/4 cup honey, or 3/4 cups maple syrup or 2/3 cup agave or 1 teaspoon stevia.

Men should consume no more than 9 teaspoons (36 grams or 150 calories) of added sugar per day. For women, the number is lower: 6 teaspoons (25 grams or 100 calories) per day. Consider that one 12-ounce can of soda contains 8 teaspoons (32 grams) of added sugar! There goes your whole day's allotment in one slurp.
